750,000 pregnant Female Bats under a bridge in Austin?

When they first moved under this bridge years ago now people wanted to get rid of them. But then, someone who studies bats told them that they eat mosquitos and all other bugs too. So, they wound up leaving them and now these 750,000 Pregnant Female Small bats eat all the bugs (including mosquitos) for 25 miles in all directions around the bridge. My daughter arranged for us to take a river ride on a barge on the Colorado River (only in Texas) this is a different one than runs through the Grand Canyon.

And little did we know as we watched the trees and Skyline of Austin, Texas traveling up and down the river that we would see the 750,000 pregnant bats who are about to become twice as many soon because their babies are going to be born in early July 2024.

They used red Spectrum lights on them as the sun set and they started heading out of their cracks under this bridge as we went under the bridge in a river barge set up with chairs. Also, I think it was electric powered because it was so very quiet too as other powered things on the river appeared to be electric too so run by Batteries likely.

Then people on their kayaks and paddle boards and river barges all gathered near the bridge as the sun was setting to see the bats as they emerged as they are nocturnal.

So, what a surprise! Even my daughter who has lived here since around November of 2023 didn't know about the bats.

So, it's sort of like the Bats saving the humans of Austin somewhat from Dengue Fever (transmitted by mosquitos) is one way to look at it!
