I was a little concerned about the heat today because when we went to the Art Museum it was 104 degrees outside or (116 degrees) with the heat index. So, we stayed in the Art Museum which had upstairs some really great East Indian and Statuary on Maitreya Buddha and also I think downstairs I believe there is a life size statue carved about 3000 years ago in Egypt of a figure with a lion's head and a Woman's body whose name translates to something like (The Powerful One). So, when it got to be around 7 pm and the outside Temperature finally dropped to around 100 Degrees we decided to do the riverwalk via Go Rio Cruises on a small river barge that took under 30 to 50 people or so and it reminded me a little of the River Barges on Ladybird lake on the Colorado river (Texas) only the ones in San Antonio are smaller because this is a canal not a full on river through town.
The other interesting thing in the Art Museum is a Tibetan Buddhist Sand Painting (there are only 4 in the entire U.S) like this because ordinarily the Sand Paintings are always eventually destroyed as a way of demonstrating impermanence to monks and Lamas as a part of their spiritual practices. So, it you go to this area upstairs you can see an actual mandala sand painting made by Tibetan Lamas under the authorization of the Dalai Lama which is really cool.
Boat cruises on the Riverwalk
are an amazing way to see the river and downtown San Antonio. The tours
are operated by Go Rio Cruises and take place from 10am to 10pm, 365
days a year.
