Just before World War II America was almost destroyed by Isolationism and fear and pacifism. Remember World War I had happened only less than 20 years before World War II and millions of men died mostly German, French and English. American Soldiers were not in this war very long before it ended and most American soldiers died from the Spanish Flu actually (a forerunner of Covid). So, we almost lost our nation before from isolationism just before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Also, there actually was a real James Bond (not just the fictional) whose real name was Gus and who was An English Spy hired by Winston Churchill to defeat the Germans when things were really bad. Gus, actually stopped the German U-Boats blowing up Allied Ships by preventing them from getting necessary supplies to function right in the Atlantic Ocean. Though Gus died later in World War II he was the REAL James Bond and Ian Fleming who actually wrote the Bond series actually knew Gus and of his exploits and the lady spy he married (in the movie) before he died later during World War II.
Unless we all stand together now (all democracies on earth) there likely will be no more democracies here on earth. So, I see what is happening now a part of the isolationism that almost ended all democracies in the 1930s and 1940s. And hopefully we can rise from the ashes of isolationism to a new Era for All Democracies on earth this time as well.
The movie (though Hollywooded up a lot by Guy Ritchie) is the basic story of how they prevented the German U-Boats from functioning long enough to get enough U.S. Liberty Ships across the Atlantic to England before they were sunk by Torpedoes.
