In 1968 the Democratic party was in revolution and we saw this in the rioting in Chicago at the convention. Now, it is 2016 and we are seeing the Republicans in Revolution with themselves. It is unlikely to know exactly how this is all going to shake out yet. However, what happened before to the democrats was Nixon was elected and we all know how that turned out. This time the likely outcome (similar) is Hillary Clinton and Bill and we have no idea how all that will turn out.
But, what we do know now is that the Republican party will likely be forever changed from what it once was this year. What it will become now is anyone's guess.
