70% of Americans do not have passports?

Pew report: Americans apprehensive about role in w...

One of the many reasons Americans are apprehensive about the U.S. role in the world is that 70% of the people of the U.S. NEVER travel outside of the U.S.

Unless you have traveled to other parts of the world to see how wrong your conception is about "everywhere else" you have no idea what you are talking about at all if all you see is on TV. TV is great that you get a window into another world but it doesn't replace your personal experiences with people all over the world. Even if you meet someone from another country here in the U.S. they tend to be "Americanized" because they actually worked hard and "CHOSE" to be here and found a way to finance their trip here and to get a Green card usually.

So, even when you meet people in the U.S. from other countries you don't get the international flavor of how people actually are when you visit another country outside of the U.S. People in other countries (who don't have passports either often) are just as unrealistic about what Americans are. What an American really is is completely unrealistic too to them until they actually meet one there in their country. Even if someone from another country came here and had been brainwashed their whole lives growing up they wouldn't even see what America was because of the "Brainwash" filter they would see the U.S. through even though over time they might see and discover what so many people love about living here in the U.S.

But, I would say definitely the main reason Americans are apprehensive about the rest of the world is because 70% of them have never been anywhere outside of the U.S.
