I was out on the Internet yesterday and happened to watch a Ferrari racing a high end Tesla. People who like Ferraris were upset by how well the Tesla did against the Ferrari for example.
The problem of a Ferrari or a Tesla is really (who is driving it?). If an unskilled person is driving a Ferrari or a Tesla you are going to have the same result: Dead Drivers.
This is an important thing to consider. Because when you combine a 90% self driving car with a car that can do 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds, what happens when someone succeeds in hacking this car. Because eventually someone will.
What is a passenger or child sitting in that car going to do when someone hacks that car and within 3.2 seconds the car is doing 60 or in 5 or 6 seconds the car is doing 100 or more miles per hour when there is no one at the wheel?
Because even though Teslas have not been hacked yet, they will. Just like a person's laptop computer could be hacked so could a Tesla (any version) and just like the Iranians brought down an American drone by hacking it's GPS one could also hack the GPS in a Tesla with a similar result.
So, I'm not interested in owning one even though they are a wonder because of this. But, I'll ride in a friend's or relatives but I just don't want to take the risk of owning one.
However, I consider people who do buy them very noble in that it makes the price of oil, gas and diesel drop even further every time someone buys one of these. So, the people who buy them (mostly are over 40 years of age) because they are expensive (the upper end ones) and soon there will be a middle Class version of Teslas available too.
So, I consider people who buy them very noble in that they are helping the rest of the world be able to afford to buy gas and diesel. However, at the same time I know these things are going to get hacked eventually and people are going to die spectacularly worldwide when that happens.
How much does it cost to power a Tesla?
Here in California it is 1 cent per mile.
The average car is still 15 cents per mile that is gas or diesel driven.
So, you can see the difference in a remarkable way.
So, the total cost of driving a Tesla 100,000 miles would be: $1000
The total cost of driving the average car 100,000 miles would be: $15,000
But, the lowering of the cost of Gas and diesel for everyone on earth is: Priceless!
I decided to take this out to 300,000 miles so it would be $3000 to power a Tesla
and $45,000 to power a regular gas or diesel vehicle the same distance. So, literally if you buy a
$35,000 Tesla and it also gets 1 cent per mile like the more expensive ones do, not only during the life of the car does it pay for itself, you also reduce the price of oil and gas worldwide.
And if on top of that you put solar panels on your house where it is practical to do like in Southern California or Arizona or other places, you completely power your driving by the sun and use no fossil fuels at all to get anywhere as long as you are just driving to and from work or locally from your house less than around 200 miles or so between recharging.
Also, Tesla has something called the Tesla Wall which is a battery system for storing all the electricity before you put it in your house electrical system or car. So, everywhere you go most of the time you could be (if you live in the right area where there is enough sun) be completely powered by the sun with no gas, diesel, or utility bills for electricity at all.
Also, they are starting to build solar cells that also store solar power on cloudy days too efficiently.
