Star Trek Beyond is boldy going where no film premiere has gone before.
The third installment in the rebooted sci-fi franchise will debut at San Diego’s Comic-Con International this July, marking the first-ever open-air IMAX world premiere, according to Paramount Pictures, which announced the news late Friday.
The world premiere event, to be held July 20 at the Embarcadero Marina Park South, will also feature appearances by cast members and a live performance of Michael Giacchino’s film score by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.
“I am thrilled to celebrate the premiere of the film together with the fans at Comic-Con and excited for everyone there to experience Michael Giacchino’s incredible score played live,” director Justin Lin said in a statement.
Comic-Con attendees may get a chance to attend the premiere; details about tickets will be released this summer.
The world premiere was announced during Friday’s Star Trek fan event at the Paramount Pictures studio lot in Hollywood, California.
Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, and Karl Urban, as well as franchise newcomer Idris Elba. The film hits theaters on July 22.
