Interstate 5 still open as of 9:30 pm Thursday night according to Caltrans

About an hour ago or so 8:00 Pm or so it started to snow heavily while friends and I were at a restaurant. The owner of the restaurant came in covered with snow so realized it was snowing. It snowed harder and harder while we finished dinner and realized we should go to our hotel and our friends to their home while we could still get there. There are 7 foot piles of snow already before this piled up in the middle of all streets in Mt. Shasta already that are wide enough to do this and still allow traffic flow. I parked strategically for the night with my 4 wheel drive and pulled the windshield wipers off my windshield so they won't freeze there during the night and back into a parking space so I could more easily go into 4 wheel drive and drive away after the 14 inches of snow has fallen by morning or whenever.

It is quite likely Interstate 5 might be closed again at some point. We found it difficult to even walk on a shoveled sidewalk so slipper was the layer of new snow. Back at the hotel the snow covered the Dish on the roof that feeds all the TVs in the hotel. I called the front desk and they said when the snow coats the dish we lose signal. They are likely going to send someone up to clean the dish but even then the signal won't last in snow coming down this heavily.

My friends sort of expect to be landlocked at their land until they hire a snow plow or something at this point and even I with my Tundra 4 wheel drive likely don't have enough clearance to drive into their road with another 14 inches of snow on top of what is already there. I had to spend 10 minutes driving over 2 to 3 feet of snow strategically today already just to turn around on their land there is so much snow even before this latest storm. I was trying to unload a friend's things because they are moving to Ashland soon for a new job.
