no wifi no TV no power no heat

IN the little city of Mt. Shasta Last night it started with No TV because the snow was coming down so very heavy that it coated the Dish on the roof so no signal was all any station said on the TV at the hotel. Then after snowing what looked like 2 to 3 feet of heavy snow on everything to the point where my friends cannot drive their cars off their 2 1/2 acres right now, I woke up to find there was not only no TV but also no WIFI so I couldn't even blog or surf the internet except on my Data through my Iphone which I did. However, then the power (we were on a generator at the hotel early in the morning) But then in order to let the power company figure out what was really wrong at the large hotel we are staying at they had to turn all power off which meant there was no heat either. Also, at the restaurant downstairs here we got the last two omelets cooked from power from the generator today. So, we returned to our room and after going to a hardware store nearby and digging out my truck and putting it into 4 wheel drive I was able to drive out of my parking place with still 2 to 3 feet of snow on the roof and on my fold top on the back of the bed of my truck. I had bought a snow sledding small thing that looks like a penguin at a Rite aid that morning and found it to be the best tool for removing this much snow without scratching the paint on my hood because it is a very smooth plastic bottom on it. Eventually, later in the day I used to clean off 2 to 3 feet off the roof and fold top bed of my truck with great success. I only had to into 4 wheel drive a few times today when turning around or trying to get out of my parking place first time in the morning with 2 to 3 feet of new snow. For me, this has been only an adventure, but then again I love being in the snow but at 68 I'm not really interested in living through a whole winter of it anymore so I'm glad I live in California where I can be in the snow when I want to and get out of it when I want also. But, I lived many many winters up here in Mt. Shasta between 1976 and 1992 off an on when I lived here with my first and second wives and my kids.

My present wife likes suburban shopping at malls too much to want to move here with me and I have grown older and like living in a suburban setting and not shoveling snow or snowplowing all winter long anymore. I still like to ski or snowshoe but I can usually get up here 2 or 3 times during snow season at least for a week or so at a time to ski so that's what I do now.

I drove up on the mountain by myself on Everitt Memorial highway and found they had closed the road much closer to town than usual because of the extreme amount of snow that has fallen. They would likely need one of those 7 plus feet high snow blower trucks to clean the road now because it is so high even at 5000 feet which is about as high as I could drive today.

One interesting story regarding Black Bear Diner (the original one here in Mt. Shasta) a tree fell over from the weight of heavy snow and wind on it's limbs into a transformer and set the tree on fire. I remarked when I heard this "I bet it didn't burn for very long." and the person telling me this nodded.

This transformer blowout might have been what triggered many problems with power and Internet connections through out this area of Mt. Shasta city. But, when I returned from dinner this night with friends who had to cross country ski to meet us near there property so they could go out to dinner with us.

So, today and last night just staying and trying to survive and be okay here in town was somewhat of a challenge but also fun for me and my wife to see so much snow come down here in Mt. Shasta.
