The Lakes near Gilroy?

152 going over near Santa Cruz was closed. 17 was closed. So, many people had to either head up towards 92 on hiway 1 or they had to head south to 156 and over to 101. But, if they did that this morning they waited like we did about 1 hour between Prunedale and Gilroy. (My wife just informed me that hiway 1 is now closed between Monterey and Big Sur which usually happens at least once very winter.

But, Lakes near Gilroy? After being caught in Traffic on 101 trying to get to San Francisco Airport and waiting 1 hour or so in forever stationary traffic. We finally saw how mountains had slipped into the slow lane (which if you hit it at 70 would have catapaulted vehicles up and over into oncoming traffic. So, we were glad road crews and skiploaders were moving it off the slow lane of 101. But,what really amazed us was 5 or 10 trucks and other farm equipment underwater in what looked like a lake bigger than 1 mile across that used to be farmland. The big trucks and farm equipment were in up to 5 feet deep of water which likely ruined the engines and couldn't be driven out and likely could only be towed out and even what towed it might get stuck so there were at least 5 vehicles large trucks, Farm equipment there likely destroyed or needing a whole lot of work to ever run again.

So, that is what is happening this week hills are sloughing off onto roads and also rocks are coming down onto freeways like 101 and others. So, as you are traveling around flooded hillsides or see brown water ahead of you slow down before you spin out of control.

We could also see where 101 had been closed both north and south just south of Gilroy Sunday night. You could see the brown spots of mud and dirt where ponds of the water, mud and dirt had closed 101 last night. Also, the famous Tunnel Sequioa Redwood Tree in Calaveras County had fallen over in one of the many storms so far. This is a 2000 year old tree.

I helped bring down one tree so a neighbor didn't lose power recently in the storms and I have heard of at least 17 trees that have gone down within a few miles of where I live. There are branches on almost all local roads. So, wherever you drive in northern California there are road hazards of various kinds everywhere from water to mud to rocks to fallen trees to fallen branches, you name it.

IN Scotts Valley a Van driving on a road up there was crushed by rocks and mud coming off one of the hills. The people got out okay.
