I believe the main thing with Editing is "Don't throw the baby out with the Bathwater".
The problem I have with editing is that what I write are a lot like my children so editing often is like snipping the fingers or first digits off my children. This is my specific problem with editing. Others of you might have different problems.
So, I tend to "under edit". But an even worse problem is "over editing" which destroys what you are writing to the point where you shouldn't have even written it in the first place.
Because of this, it is very important to keep an original copy and edit a secondary copy of whatever you are doing.
In this way if you "over edit" you can always go back to a previous version.
But, let's say you are writing a book. A book is much more difficult to edit because there is so much more involved.
You might edit a book once and think you are done. Usually, Nope.
So, how do you edit?
Do you let someone else rape your child?
This is even harder.
So, to me, editing is a completely impossible task.
But, just remember over editing is much worse than under editing.
What is hard is editing "Just the right amount."
I prefer to edit out misspellings using the spelling checkers. But, you will find this doesn't always work because it will find some words correctly spelled that aren't words at all that are really misspellings, and then you will find context errors as well so your verbs aren't in the right tense.
And then you will find times where you thought you wrote something but didn't. In other words it was in your mind but never arrived at your pen or your fingertips while typing on a keyboard or you forgot to say it if you were using voice to text technology.
However, the problem with Voice to text technology is that it is still only about 80% to 90% accurate at best. So, when you use it likely it is going to take 10 times longer to edit it. So, most of the time if I need to edit what I say then at some point I stop doing that because of the increased editing time.
However, sometimes voice to text is the only way you can get out a really great idea you might have. So, you have to consider all these things to come up with something really amazing that you are writing.
And sometimes amazing things will come in the night while you are dreaming and then the first thing you should do is to write these things down before you lose them. Because things that come to you while dreaming and asleep or just beginning to wake up often come direct for God to help all mankind. This is also my experience.
Don't ever underestimate what God is trying to do through you. This might be one of the most important things I'll ever say to you.
If you don't presently believe in God just remember I didn't believe in God from ages 10 to 15 that I didn't either then because I believed God was trying to kill me through Blunt Trauma childhood epilepsy. But, by age 15 I realized what God was trying to do through me which wasn't trying to kill me but to initiate me into a much more powerful and useful way of being to him. But this didn't happen to me overnight but came through a level of terror I wouldn't wish for any of you. But, it worked for me in changing me into an Intuitive that works for God.
If you read about the prophets in the old testament about their terrifying experiences with God then you can understand what I went through too. If God Comes to you you are terrified and then you die and become someone else. This is just the way it works in real life and always has and always will.
Video Blogs or Vlogs
Then there are video blogs or Vlogs which you could likely edit also to what you want it to be including joining through editing the best parts of many video logs into one that you might want to be put on Youtube or something like this. Once again you want to keep your originals so you don't electronically edit out the wrong things.
But, keeping track of what you want and what you don't want is very difficult so keep a lot of notes regarding all of this so you can find what you want when you want to instead of just sitting there screaming inside your mind because you forgot which was which.
Also, some times you need to just get up and take a walk or watch TV or talk to someone when you are editing because sometimes it just becomes too much to do. This is my experience anyway. Being clearheaded and not being angry about something in your life allows for better editing to so you don't completely destroy what you are writing as well.
The saddest thing of all maybe in relation to writing is people that get so angry that they throw away or burn their originals of their book or writings because they got angry about something or someone in their lives. Doing this in some ways is sort of like committing suicide vicariously. So, be careful of this if you are a serious writer.
My way of looking at life is this: "Life is a serious Game" but never forget it is as much a game as it is serious.
One of the very worst things you can do in life is to take it too seriously. For example, this is both the truth and a joke at the same time "No one gets out of here alive!"
So, until you can laugh at things like this you aren't going to get very far in life. This is my experience.
From my personal experience there are two kinds of people who don't make it to 30. The first doesn't take life seriously enough to make it to 30. And the second takes life just too seriously to survive to 30.
With that I think I'm done writing about editing for today.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
