This was taught to me by a friend:
In this exercise you are looking for the source of your thoughts. It is a meditation of looking for the source of all your thoughts.
It is also a way of disregarding anything that comes into your mind. In other words you are not trying to suppress thoughts and instead looking for the source of all your thoughts.
So, it is sort of like "throwing up" from your subconscious mind because you are not trying to suppress anything that comes out of your subconscious.
If you have the mental discipline to do this it can be amazingly freeing almost like a bowel movement when you haven't been able to go for a week or something like this.
One often feels freer if one has the discipline to do this.
But, in relation to one's mind it is important to realize "Garbage in Garbage out".
So, be careful what you put in there in the first place because absolutely everything you put your attention on affects your subconscious mind because it is like a 2 1/2 year old child or younger.
So, in this way you are parenting yourself as that 2 1/2 year old or younger and cleansing your mind of useless things.
So, by focusing only on where your thoughts are coming from you release all information out of your subconscious mind as a cleansing meditation to take you towards complete enlightenment.
