And from Philosophy I began to understand that psychology might help me stay alive to 25 or 30 and I was right. My parents had never been to college and so they didn't really understand the science of psychology. However, I realized that the traditions versus real life were sort of creating my demise over time. By studying philosophy and psychology I came to the realization that I needed to let go a lot of traditions because they were killing me. So, I decided to pare away things not useful to my survival.
So, studying philosophy and psychology literally saved my life. And for awhile I studied to be a psychologist so I could help others whose cultural conflicts were also slowly or quickly killing them.
Life isn't very useful if you are dead.
