In Tibetan Buddhism they have what is called "The Whispered Lineage" which is the whispers of Angels that they call "Dakas (male angels) and Dakinis (female angels). However, often women are called Dakinis too and I think this is because they are often thought of as incarnate angels and often I would agree with this point of view.
So, speaking with angels one usually has to calm themselves enough down to do this. And most alcohol and drugs are not helpful in this "Talking to Angels".
Often when I believed I was dying in my life I could ask the angels if I was dying and what they always would say is something like "No. You are not dying! This is only Temporary, which is why I'm still alive today at age 75. Otherwise it would have been easier in some ways to just panic and die like many people do at any age. One has to be very brave in some ways to survive to old age.
