Saudi Arabia and Iran have had a proxy war going on through the Houthis in Yemen for some time now

There are two factions (or more of Islam), one is  Shia Islam (which is Iran's main brand of Islam) and there is the Sunni Brand of Islam (which most other Arab nations embrace).

So, the Houthis are Shia like Iran and the Sunnis are like Saudi Arabia and they have been fighting a lot over the past few years in Yemen. The Houthis have tried to bring the war to Saudi Arabia and the Houthis are financed almost completely by Iran and the Shias.

It's difficult even for me to see how this helps the Houthis by attacking Western or Israeli Ships at this point though. I'm not sure completely of the usefulness of this because it seems counterproductive to Houthi Survival long term. This is because what is to stop Europe and the U.S. and Saudi Arabia deciding that they have had enough of the Houthis in the Red Sea and wiping them out together?

So, it doesn't make any sense at all to me why Houthis would be this self destructive to their own cause by bringing in Europe and the U.S. against them.

The ONLY way it makes sense to me is if Russia is involved and financing Houthis to do this to have a better chance of Taking Ukraine. This is the only thing that would make sense in this to me.

So, maybe the Houthis have been paid off through Putin to Iran to the Houthis to do what they are doing. Money creates all kinds of things in the Middle East and often it isn't good for anyone (except maybe Putin).
