I thought Drukpa Kunley was a fictitious character in 1985 and 1986

So imagine my surprise that probably 20 years after I learned the Drukpa Kunley stories from a Tibetan Buddhist monk who had become a Himalayan Mountain climbing guide (to support his parents until they passed on) told me many of these very funny Drukpa Kunley stories there in Dharamshala, India. Thubten was the student of Geshe Lobsang Gyatso and eventually moved to I think Wisconsin with his new American wife named Tara then in 1986.
He speaks very good English and so was an English Translator for The Gyuto Tantric Monks when they travel and sing (especially in the 1980s and 1990s through the U.S. and sometimes around the world on tour.
Then in January and February 1986 I had thought that these were expertly crafted stories to bring people into the Tibetan Buddhist Dharma because they made me laugh so hard I often fell on the floor and laughter often is the best medicine in moving someone towards enlightenment in a very Zen sort of way. like "What is the sound of one hand clapping?"

Drukpa Kunley was a real historical monk who was "Crazy Wisdom". I tend to be Crazy Wisdom too so I can really relate to the story of his life. Crazy Wisdom is not Crazy but rather "The Wisdom Beyond Logic". So, you are spontaneous accomplishment in the moment. To someone who is not crazy wisdom it is often terrifying to watch someone who is actually manifesting Crazy wisdom at the time. It is sort of like watching someone surf a 50 to 100 foot wave in the ocean and come out of it smiling and okay.
