IPCC Says: Humans Cause Global Warming, Need Crash Carbon Diet NOW in their latest report, notes InsideClimate News. To avert ever worsening catastrophic climate change, nations must dramatically cut carbon emissions now; the report specifies a needed carbon budget. Going on a reproductive diet would help, too...

Feeding Cows Differently Could Lower Their Emissions By 30 Percent says a new UN study, reports Katie Valentine at Climate Progress. Their emissions (burps, farts, and manure) are a significant global source of methane, a short-term but much more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. Feeding them more easily digestible food, and using the manure as fertilizer decreases methane emissions.
Holy Hornets, Batman! Thumb-Sized Insects Getting More Aggressive And Fatal As China Warms reports Ryan Koronowski at Climate Progress. These deadly hornets have proliferated and become more aggressive in the wake of intense summer heat waves in China, sometimes chasing (at 25 mph) and attacking people; 28 people have died in the past month, and hundreds more have been injured. This is SO not how I imagined Jumanji coming true....

Researchers Just Hit A New World Record In Solar Cell Efficiency reports Katie Valentine at Climate Progress. The new cells are nearly 45 percent efficient at converting sunlight into energy; this is about triple your typical solar cells on a roof, and well above the average 30 percent efficiency from wind power. The take home message is that as solar efficiency rises, solar power becomes an increasingly lucrative way to supplant fossil fuels - and that can't happen fast enough...

Every day is Earth Day, folks, as I was reminded by this spectacular photo of a bat that literally flew into the toad's mouth, reprinted from this Huffington Post blog http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/24/toad-eats-bat-photo_n_3977363.html?utm_hp_ref=green (the bat escaped!). Making the U.S. a global clean energy leader will ensure a heck of a lot more jobs, and a clean, safe future. If you'd like to join the increasing numbers of people who want to TELL Congress that they will vote for clean energy candidates you can do so here. It's our way of letting Congress know there's a strong clean energy voting bloc out there. For more detailed summaries of the above and other climate change items, audio podcasts and texts are freely available.
