Are self driving Cars safer than ones with humans driving them? No!

Why?

This is the best way I can explain it. My father talked about traveling cross country on dirt and rock roads from about 1920 on with wooden spoke wheels when he was about 5 years old. "WHY wooden Spoke wheels?"

Because before paved roads were built outside of cities and between big cities, at speeds under 25 mph (which was all most cars could do on most roads without crashing then) wooden spoke wheels made more sense because they were an evolution of Covered Wagon or Stage coach wooden spoked wheels which actually do better with concussions on bad dirt and rock roads (at least they did better then with available technology and know how.

How does this relate to today?

Think about the development of the car, the truck and the plane. Did any of them happen over night? No!

Neither will self driving or even partially self driving vehicles. it isn't and won't be safer than a human driver for years. You'll see. It could be 100 years sort of like with the development of cars, trucks and planes.

Companies are going to want to hide information from the public (all kinds) but in reality no matter what kinds of sweet deals the companies cook up in Congress of limiting liability when people don't read the fine print when they buy or ride in self driving vehicles. (in other words a lot of unsuspecting people being killed and maimed for no reason other than being gullible (Caveat Emptor) "let the buyer beware!"

For my money they are death traps for now, especially if there is no emergency steering wheel or emergency brake on board.

So, I don't want one.

And you wouldn't either if you knew what I know at present.

Think about this for a moment.

There was no safety glass in many vehicles still while I was growing up in the 1950s.

Teenagers spilled all over roads for hundreds of feet while traveling over 100 mph on roads and dead was pretty common in the 1950s too. People just died and got maimed all over the place a lot more then. It was kind of accepted, especially after almost 1 million of our boys dying in World war II, everyone was kind of PTSD nuts after that.

Seat belts weren't required to be used ANYWHERE I don't believe until the late 1980s for example.

I remember getting two seat belt tickets one in Hawaii and one in the SF Bay Area before I realized I couldn't afford another seat belt ticket and decided to wear the stupid things. and this was at least 1989 or 1990 before I started wearing seat belts AT ALL.

Do you get my point?

The world actually changes very very slowly. And likely 100,000 people or more are going to die (or more worldwide) before they get these things to work right and then maybe just maybe they will be safer than a human driver.

But then, the next week, someone is going to bribe a Congressman or woman and thousands more will die because of some insurance liability loophole the self driving car company pays for so they can run bad software or bad hardware that maims and kills even more people.

Look at VW right now. They have 300,000 or more diesel VWs stashed all over the U.S. because of lying to the U.S.  Federal government about emissions.

Do you Really think self driving cars will be safer than human driven ones? C'mon Really?
