Just remember when you get above about 5 to 6 feet of snow anywhere in California, Utah or Colorado or other western states that avalanche hazards begin to go up exponentially this time of year if you are a skier or snowboarder. So, you need to be thinking about this when you go out skiing or snowboarding this time of year so you are prepared for anything. You especially don't want to be skiing alone when you are hit with an avalanche like I was above tree line on Mt. Shasta. Luckily, I was young and strong enough to dig my way out after it stopped moving with me in it when about a city block of snow went down the mountain with me alone in the center of of it. Luckily, I was only buried up to my chest so I could both dig out and breathe throughout the whole thing. The Avalanche hit trees so I was lucky not to be on the leading edge of the avalanche or I could have been thrown into large trees with great force. So, I don't ski above tree line after this experience in the 1980s at about 9000 feet riding down to tree line at 8000 feet on an avalanche that was moving pretty fast and sounded sort of like a freight train moving with all the crunching sounds of snow being crushed and then trees being hit eventually. So, I was very lucky to survive this experience at all because I was alone at the time there. So, I just don't ski alone high on the mountain above tree line anymore to prevent more stuff like this happening to me. People who learn from their life lessons go on to survive their lives like I did. Others who don't learn these lessons sometimes don't. You've got to know when it is useful to be afraid so you can have fun and still survive and be there for your friends and family and yourselves.
