Obama taking a stand on precedent for future Presidents

While Mr Obama noted "the usual messy process of American democracy", he said twice he was taking a stand now for future presidents who could not be expected to choose between "world-wide catastrophe and making concessions to one faction of one party of one House".
Very near the end he said: "I'm not budging."
end quote from:

Obama: I'm not budging but here's a hint

So, the stance is very military like one in defense of the country itself. Because the precedent of giving in to a small faction of ANY party is a problem for all future presidents in regard to blackmail if it is done by (ANY) President now or at any time in the future.
