My wife and I and a friend went to see Divergent: the movie today in Northern California. It is definitely a young adult woman's empowerment movie the way it works. You enter a class based society which in itself is sort of fascist but well meaning in itself. The main girl who comes to call herself Tris as her new name in the warrior class as she becomes an adult and is allowed to choose the class in which she will serve the greater community. It appears to be a post war scenario supposedly in Chicago when only Chicago is civilized with this kind of city government that has also become a sort of state unto itself. So, she enters Dauntless, the Warrior class for training.
However, because she is "divergent" she is in danger. The best way I can describe "Divergent" would also be my own personal experience of being an intuitive. You tend to be fearless in your actions because you understand life naturally on a much deeper and yet more compassionate level than many other people do. The people around you often are more ruled with fear rather than sensing what is truth about everything around them. She learns to survive by hiding what she is so she isn't killed by the leadership in all classes. This also is what learning to become a naturally gifted person sometimes has to be also until you are safe enough to reveal yourself to friends as well. Some people never reveal themselves to anyone.
This movie is sort of formulaic but well done and an excellent movie for empowering young people to survive whatever comes in their lives. It reminded me a lot of what people told me about surviving in Nazi occupied situations or who were stuck behind the Iron Curtain and couldn't get out during the Cold War. So, much of what happens here parallels real life in some ways.

It reminds me a little of "Twilight" in this girls voyage of discovery about life as an adult. So, it is sort of a girl moving from being a teenager to an adult and the way she survives this in the real world. It is definitely worth seeing as a young person and in specific if you are a female person.
