Hopefully, the atmospheric Rivers will help western Aquifers replenish

  1. One of the aquifers I know the most about is the one below Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. It is said now that it will be completely drained within 10 years given the usage by Palm Springs and other local municipalities and Indio South into the Coachella Valley. But, there are also many other aquifers like below Phoenix, Arizona too.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - California's extended drought has impacted the efforts of local water agencies to recharge the Coachella Valley's underground water aquifer.

Palm Springs is a man-made oasis blanketed with more than 120 golf courses, and dotted by swimming pools, a water park and plenty of green lawns.

For example, places like Phoenix, Arizona are also in trouble from diminishing aquifers. Cities aren't always placed near rivers and lakes. Some places like Phoenix, Arizona and Palm Springs are built because there is deep deep water in aquifers which have been gathering water for thousands and millions of years. However, if any place in the west drains their aquifer faster than it can be replenished by nature, then eventually there will be no water left at all to drink or bath or whatever with.
