The world is definitely changing a lot now. It reminds me a little of about 1925 until around 1939 or 1940 for a comparison. There will not be a Third world War because that would end the world with nukes and everyone knows this since around 1945. However, there likely will be many squabbles as nations and parts of nations try to create a future they can stand to live in.
The world economy is driving a lot of this and Global Climate change and the struggle for resources is also driving this as well as cultural desires for security and continuity within different ethnic communities worldwide. It is hard to say where all this will shake out to. If 1990 was the ebb of Soviet Russia then this is the flow like that was low tide and this might be a new high tide of changes in it's own way similar in some respects to Arab Spring.
In fact, residents of Ukraine are already calling this in jest "Russian Spring" for a variety of reasons.
So, the future might not be what anyone expects. Look at the Mideast after "Arab Spring".
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
