Extremes both hotter and colder and more winds are just a part of global Climate change. One of the symptoms of extreme global climate change is everything from Polar bears attacking northern hamlets for food because of not enough ice to hunt on the ice flows. Polar Vortexes dropping over the eastern part of the U.S. is also a part of loss of ice in the north polar region year around now where polar air gets destabilized from this and often when the polar vortexes drop it takes temperatures at the north pole up to about 50 degrees which causes the polar region sometimes to completely melt out around the north pole. This also causes various kinds of die offs from fish to insects and other animals and sea life to die off from strange fluctuations in temperatures at odd times of year as well.

So, the end result of all of this is and will be massive die offs of humans, insects, and animals of both lands and seas worldwide over the coming years. This is why they call this "The 6th Great Extinction".
