My wife's friend came to visit 2 weeks ago and then when she left for home my son came from Oregon with his family. 2 weeks ago it was mostly too hot because most people don't have air conditioners here on the coast where I live because it is seldom if ever above around 80 degrees year around. So, the highs the last 2 weeks have been mostly between about 65 and 80 degrees here on the northern California coast. But, when you don't need air conditioners it also means that even with the windows open these days the temperature in the house 24 hours a day now is between 70 and 75 degrees which isn't too bad. We can increase the temperature or reduce the temperature on hot days by opening or closing shutters on the windows or opening or closing shutters on the skylights of the house.
But, the last week has likely been the best weather of the year so far with temperatures mostly between 70 and 79 degrees in the daytime with night time lows between 60 and 64 degrees. At the same time places like Death Valley inland and south of us are getting 116 to 118 degrees and today Palm Springs was 117 degrees and right now at 8:42 PM Tuesday it is still 105 degrees there right now. However, desert heat is dry and so more survivable than humid heat which at 105 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity could easily kill people because they cannot evaporate sweat to stay cool in that much humidity. So, then ice on the forehead with fans or air conditioners in Cars or trucks or malls would be the way to survive that.
I can remember visiting the Safeway in Lahaina, Maui on a really hot day and the inside of the mall was filled with people trying to stay cool enough not to get heat stroke in the summer once there. Even in Hawaii if you don't have air conditioning in the summer time if you live on the desert side of the islands the heat can be problematic.
