The Information Revolution?

There are some who think this is a good thing. However, I see it as both the best and worst thing that has ever happened to the human race at this point.

What is my reasoning? The problem becomes "Any one person in any government or company can now mask his or her identity and begin to bring down that government from within by publishing literally whatever they want to. They likely will eventually be caught but this doesn't mitigate the problems they cause to that government or corporation or individual.

As a direct result, countries like the U.S. gather more and more information about literally everyone on earth as a natural survival mechanism and because they can. Who seriously is going to stop a nation like the U.S. , Russia, or China (or all the others) from doing this? And if they try secretly they will disappear and if they try publicly other problems will result.

So, the direct result is a Big Brother kind of scenario not exactly like the book "1984" but something equally insidious.

Also, now this information results also in terrorists being blown up by drones that are leaders world wide. So far, no nation has been able to stop the U.S. and other nations who do this secretly from killing anyone they choose to in literally almost any country. This type of thing likely will expand. Even now, in the U.S. there are far more drone pilots in front of video displays on the ground in the U.S. and around the world than there are actual pilots in U.S. military planes in the air.

We are just beginning to see people like Julian Assange and Edward Snowden basically give up their lives on principles they can relate to in regard to information. They likely will only the first of thousands and thousands more like them into the future. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? If you are intelligent it is equally good and bad because people die directly and indirectly from the information they release. Many people's lives are destroyed directly and indirectly from the information people like this release as well.

So, I'm thinking it is no longer an Information Revolution but more aptly called an "Information War". But now, since this is being conducted by the "5th Estate" in other words by everyone on the planet against everyone else on the planet it is sort of insane and uncontrollable unless the Internet and Globalization become illegal.

However, that isn't very likely for now because the Internet is basically now making anyone capable on earth who has the time basically a college graduate de facto just through the true information on literally any subject known to man or woman.

But, what is this actually doing to humankind and to the Earth? in the short run? in the long Run?

No one can answer this question. I hope it doesn't eventually result in something like the Movie "The Matrix" I saw a few days ago.
