the nature of war, but also to concentrate their tanks into large
groups. the Panzer divisions
were the world's first armored units. these units were able to blitz
their way through the Allied armies, trapping and destroying them from

there were some other factors as well. the Germans were the first to allow ground units to call in air support, for example. basically the Germans invented modern mechanized (or combined arms) warfare, and no one could stand against them. by 1942, there was the widespread use of anti-tank weapons and mines, not to mention the formation of Allied tank units, which eliminated the German tactical advantage of the early war.

I think you have to apply what Putin is doing now to what Hitler did in 1940. But, what Putin is doing is taking land (at present) where most or a majority of people are more loyal to Russia than to the Ukraine. Also, even though Russia is a corrupt nation, Ukraine, (up to now) has been equally corrupt as well. So, even people who likely would fight for Ukraine like soldiers might wonder what they are dying for under the present circumstances?
So, very few soldiers likely are willing to die for Ukraine right now. However, if this moves to other parts of Ukraine where more or a majority are actually loyal to the Ukraine over Russia you likely are going to see many more people fighting and dying than are now.
I would describe what Putin is doing as Asymmetrical Warfare combined with Blitzkrieg (or the lightning quick strike using tanks that Hitler preferred.
While other people or nations are talking about what to do about the problem of Putin, Putin has already taken the lands and areas through asymmetrical warfare and blitzkrieg with tanks. Getting territory back by Ukraine or anyone else then becomes about 100 times harder for anyone for a variety of logistical and military and political reasons.
Also, Russia is stealing military bases, equipment and weapons from Ukrainian soldiers and Naval personnel including warships owned by the Ukraine worth millions and millions of dollars at the same time. Basically, Putin is acting like a pirate like Black Beard and getting away with it at present.
