Respect for International Law doesn't exist under Putin
I was reading the above article at the above button about Target and noticed that all the DATA was sent to Russia. There (at the present) doesn't seem to be any actual separation between the government of Russia and Criminal Hackers in Russia. The Same is true of China as well. So, criminality is now an acceptable way to do business. Because whether Hackers in Russia who hit Target are government employees or not they will never be punished in any court of law for their actions against the 40 million people who might have had or will have their identities stolen and potentially wind up going bankrupt from people misusing their identities and monies and credit.
I see this as a form of economic warfare that both Russia and China practice against the Western world because they don't abide by the same laws that we do.
So, unless the Internet is broken apart into people that abide by International law and people's who don't more and more Americans and Europeans and Canadians and every other free country are going to have their identities stolen, their credit destroyed and companies like Target (because of the bad publicity) more and more might not want to mention what has actually happened until it is too late. The truth (though too late) was very damaging to Target if you look at their bottom line profits and losses since this happened.
If countries like Russia and China and others can wage war economically directly against the U.S. and EU and other free and democratic nations, why should they resort to Nuclear War which would just end all life on Earth.
Or better yet why not send in armies that are not recognized armies but more like spies with weapons and masks like bandits to take over countries hopefully without firing a shot?
I see the attack on Target, the attack on the Crimea, the support of Assad (which is killing now hundreds of thousands of people over the years as all a part of the same thing which is an attack on western democracies and International Law.
Why should Russia and China specifically stop doing what they are doing if they can get away with it?
If the western world cannot find an answer to this question then it is only a matter of time before the free world will be gone.
Russia and China don't have to do anything but what they are already doing to collapse the free world, they just have to continue in the directions that they are presently going to undermine democracies all over the Earth.
So, in order for democracies to survive possibly the Internet has to be separated from Russia and China so this is harder to do for people in Russia and China. This might not be practical to do. However, the world right now appears to me to be (at least in the western democracies) like a lobster put in Cold Water with the burner then turned on under the pot. What will make the lobster jump out before he dies? Maybe the answer is nothing. If that is the case, over time expect all the free democracies to eventually become dictatorships as this happens and as the middle class dies worldwide.
Complacency is the death of all democracies this century. Only by standing up and saying "No!" and jumping out of the pot can the free democracies be saved!
I think I have in a simple way defined the problem as I see it. I don't think I have an actual workable solution for it yet. But, if you and I think about it a little maybe we can figure out how to protect the western world from the economic lawlessness of Russia and China.
The Crimea is simply another example of the blatant lawlessness in regard to International Law.
