3 days of Rain so far in NorCal from Atmospheric River from El Nino off Pacific Ocean
Already one tree has come down onto a fence in our back yard from a neighbor's fence from all the weather. Last year a tree came down against our house but luckily didn't break any windows or stain glass windows on that side of the house. We were very lucky to find a good tree man to remove the tree in a way which left little or not damage to our house even though the neighbor whose tree it was still hasn't reimbursed us for the cost of removing one of their trees. Now another one of their acacia trees has come down onto one of our back fences. I looked carefully at it and was thinking about trying to take the weight off one of our fences before it exploded from all the weight. However, as I thought about it more I realized this would be really dangerous because the tree coming down when the fence gave way might kill or maim me. So, I decided to call another neighbor who is also affected by this acacia falling tree about 8 to 10 inches through, so a great deal of weight up to 1000 pounds or more right now on my fence. But, sometimes hiring a professional might save your life in a situation like this one. Though I have removed many large dangerous or down trees over the years with a chain saw various places I have lived in California I also have almost been killed or almost had my arms ripped out of their sockets too doing this. So, I have learned that wisdom is the best part of valor and I'm going to hire someone else to take the risks this time because I'm now in my late 60s and don't need to be injured again (or killed doing something stupid).
By the way, Atmospheric Rivers of the kind we are experiencing now were also the cause of the Arcstorm of 1862 which bankrupted the State of California then and killed at least 1/4 of the cattle in California turning it from a Cattle State to a farming state in one year. However, this is just a taste of a true Atmospheric river off the Pacific for now at least.
