Gingrich was speaking today on a news program and his point of view was an interesting one.
He said something like "Kasich and Rubio together are only going to bring in about 20% of the vote no matter what if you include all the races they have been in so far including tomorrow. So, that means that 80% of the votes by tomorrow are going to be in Trump and Cruz's hands. How do the Romney old guard types stop Trump or Cruz if they band together like with Trump running for president and Cruz as Vice President. You're right they old Republican party cannot stop them at the convention, especially if they do this before the first vote of delegates or something like this.
So, Gingrich's point of view is that the Old Guard Conservative Republicans cannot stop Trump if he is aligned with Cruz as his vice Presidential Candidate. I thought this was a very interesting point of view. It's not that I completely agree with it, it's just he might be right.
If this is true then the old guard Republican Conservative Right just lost control of the Republican party likely forever because once Trump runs if he wins, Trump becomes the de facto leader of the Republican party after that even if many old time Republicans refuse to vote for Trump and vote for Hillary instead like many have sworn to do already.
In other words if Trump wins in November the old Republican Guard has lost the party forever (or at least until Trump is out of office.
