Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., argued Thursday that passing a bill to partially repeal Obamacare would result in the deaths of thousands of people.
"Tens of thousands of Americans will die if this bill passes," he said on the House floor. That's a fact."
"This is the cruelest and most immoral thing I've seen the Republican Party do to the American people," he added.
Republicans were on the verge of passing a bill Thursday that would give states the option of waiving some of Obamacare's requirements, after weeks trying to gather enough Republican support.
Cicilline said passing it would show Republicans don't care about millions of people who need to keep Obamacare in place.
"Don't try to tell me that they care about factory, construction workers that will be hurt by this bill," he said. "Don't try to tell me that they care about single moms that won't be able to put food on the table after you pass this bill."
"And don't try to tell me that they care about cancer survivors who are going to pay $140,000 more for health insurance," he added.
