Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)-  In one fell swoop, a March 11th 2014 column in The Christian Science Monitor was used to criticize the NRA’s lobbying for gun rights, the “notion that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to own a gun as a tool for self-defense,” and the existence of “stand your ground” laws in Florida, as well as nearly half the states in the union.
Written by Patrik Jonsson, the column juxtaposes “protesters gathered for a [March 10th 2014] anti-gun rally in Tallahassee” with the NRA, described as having “[moderated] its rhetoric and legislative agenda in the wake of the” the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary, but now preparing to “rev up its lobbying machine and put it back into high gear.”
Even without the NRA, according to the column, things are difficult for those who protest guns because “Supreme Court rulings have strengthened the notion that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to own a gun as a tool for self-defense.”
Finally, Jonsson comes to “stand your ground” and tries to show its failure by pointing to the shooting deaths of Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis. However, “stand your ground” was not cited by either defense in those cases; rather, both defenses argued on grounds of self-defense, leading to George Zimmerman’s acquittal and a hung jury in Michael Dunn’s trial.

The Christian Science Monitor’s Gun Controlapalooza

I see the right to bear arms and own arms and bullets as more about keeping our democracy intact from attacks by other nations than anything else at this point. Because most people in the U.S. now don't need weapons most of the time because where they live is relatively safe and they don't worry about bears breaking down their doors to eat their children or the same with Mountain lions much anymore. Also, there are police in all municipalities that might actually get to your home (or wherever you are) in about 5 to 10 minutes after you call them (even though you might also be dead or maimed by then if you don't have a weapon that you actually know how to use effectively). So, my position is that we are one of the few domestically armed developed nations still on earth.

I think it is extremely dangerous to the future of governance that so many nations have disarmed their people's worldwide. A good example of this is what Putin is doing in Crimea now. Could any of you have imagined a year ago that Putin would ever do this to the Ukraine or Crimea.

And do any of you really feel he is going to stop with Crimea in his quest for land? What if Putin came here using the same methods he is using now in Crimea? Would you pull out your gun and stop him or would you just let him take your land and properties? This is a question people in every nation on earth need to start thinking about now.

They always say "Hitler lost it!" as he took over all the major countries of Europe one by one except Great Britain because it is an island. Well. Is Putin indicating he has lost it too? Maybe.
