I think I found it on TCM (Turner Classic Movies). Every so often I will DVR old movies that I liked that I might want to watch again at some point. Most of them I delete because more important things come up to do or watch. But, Hugh Lofting's books were something that got me to read more adult themed books and more adventure types of books that eventually led to Science Fiction with Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clark and others. But, it all sort of started with a character called Freddy the Pig and his group of talking animals that I became intrigued with when I was about 9 years of age. I used to take these books to read when my parents were on the platform as ministers. So, as they were conducting church above me I was in the minister's headquarters that had an office, and couch and dressing room and bathroom privately reading Hugh Lofting books and doing my homework. Most church activities I wasn't required to attend except Sunday meetings and youth group meetings on Friday nights.
At first, most of the time I was reading was when I didn't have access to a TV. However, this started to change when I was 10 and read a lot of Heinlein and Asimov during the summers to pass the time when I wasn't riding my bicycle or delivering the Glendale News Press to all my customers on my bicycle then in 1958.
