If it is up to Putin Sanctions won't matter

If it is up to Putin Sanctions put in place by the U.S. and E.U. won't matter at all. However, if it is up to the Russian people themselves it might be a different story.

Once sanctions are put in place the next likely thing that Putin will do is to nationalize U.S. and E.U. companies and holdings, possessions and monies and properties in Russia just like Crimea is now nationalizing all Ukrainian owned businesses in Crimea right now. This is going to hurt and to bankrupt a whole lot of people in the U.S. and EU and likely in Russia too but it might not hurt Putin and only piss off many Russians who support him more which might not create the outcomes that the U.S. , the EU and the rest of the world want.

In order to stop Putin from continuing this behavior in Urkraine and other countries something more than sanctions is going to have to be used short of nuclear war.

We went through 50 years trying to create Detente and SALT treaties and all sorts of nuclear treaties to sign with all sorts of nations. Russia is breaking those rules now in the way he is going about doing this. He is also breaking all the rules of the UN you notice too. He is spitting in the face of the civilizing effects of nations since World War II. By doing this he is making his own rules. This is what Empires do.

So, what short of nuclear war will convince Putin to stop what he is doing? This is the multi-billion dollar question of the day, year and possibly even of this decade.

If this question is not answered what is to stop Putin from Nationalizing all of Europe and even Great Britain into Russia Bloodlessly just like he is doing right now?

Later: I was thinking that somehow the ineffective U.S. and EU policies regarding Syria and to some degree in Libya and Egypt as well have started to bring the Ukraine Crisis (and likely others in the future) to this point.

Though I agree with the whole "Sphere of Influence" policy of the EU and U.S. (in order to effectively prevent nuclear war or wars) still some new policy must be hammered out to keep Russia, China and any other nations in check during these times of world changes. In other words "The policies enacted just after world war II are all beginning to fall apart worldwide because of political changes and the more scarce resources in many ways of all nations and because of overpopulation and Global Climate Change. Another factor is the world revolt of the middle Class which as the world's middle class continues to die because of globalization might get very serious everywhere eventually.
