Old Men Wearing Hats

When I was young and learning to drive a car my father cautioned me, "Watch out for old men wearing hats! They are often unpredictable drivers."

At the time I just took this on face value and probably thought that this had to do with older men often going bald and not wanting to show their bald spots.

But, starting in the mid 1990s I found myself to at least becoming "And older man wearing a baseball cap outside most of the time because of preventing skin cancer which my aunt died from around 1995. So, my mother and I went to a dermatologist and had precancerous stuff removed from the both of us. I still wear a hat outside (mostly hats with places I have traveled to in the U.S. and world emblazoned on the front of the baseball style hat). And I find this sort of funny considering I never wore hats at all until I had to have a squamish cell cancer removed from my nose which turned out to become sort of a one sided facelift in the process so I had no wrinkles under my right eye after that for about 5 years. But, not wanting more precancers or worse on my face I started to wear billed hats when out walking or working in the yard or traveling in my car or truck.

So, now I understand more about why older men wear hats. (It's mostly because they are just trying to stay alive a little longer and not die like most of their friends already have).

Note: By the way if any member or members of your biological family have had skin precancers of any kind it is important to see a dermatologist at least once every 6 months.

Because within 6 months to a year ANY melanoma can become a fatal outcome even if you are 10 or 20 years of age.
