Some of the people that might be helpful dealing with the new Cold War

Vice President Biden is the closest to the president with the most experience dealing with Cold war issues.

Others that might be useful in this crisis: Senator McCain if he isn't being too political at this time. Being political isn't useful in getting this thing behind us and moving on into the future without starting a nuclear war. Senator McCain was shot down in a Navy fighter pilot during the Viet Nam War and held in prison there and tortured. He watched many other Americans die there but survived somehow to become an American Senator. So, he has great sensitivity for the needs of soldiers and sailors everywhere on earth and also knows something about Communist brainwashing and torture and understands the problems of the Cold War as a result first hand from awful personal experiences for 5 years in North Viet Nam.

Kissinger: Kissenger along with Nixon opened up China to trade and Capitalism which changed the total future of China into the success it has now had since the 1970s. Kissenger is one of the greatest political minds of the 20th Century in any country that is still alive today.

These are just a few of the great minds regarding Cold War issues in the 20th and now 21st Century that could be very helpful now in navigating the strange times we presently live in that look a little like a 2nd Cold War beginning with Syria and now Ukraine.

However, Putin is unlike any previous historical figure in some ways. But, he sees himself as a restorer of the Russian Empire which is a danger to everyone on earth in a variety of ways. Because Empires don't recognize or acknowledge the borders of any nations.
