U.S. is 15th in Internet Speed Worldwide

I was listening to the Japanese head of Softbank who at 18 billion dollars in worth he is the richest man in Japan. Years ago my son and I (about 20 years ago now) worked at Temporary jobs at Softbank locally. So, I was interested in hearing about what he had to say. I knew that, for example, South Korea and Japan tend to be at least 8 times faster than the U.S. in regard to uploading and downloading speeds in regard to the Internet. But, I wasn't aware that the U.S. had fallen so far behind so many countries that we are now 15th? I also know that we are also behind in not putting chips in our credit cards and ATM cards for security either. This is one reason why the Target Internet attack on Point of Sale machines inside of Target was so deadly it affected (directly and indirectly) over 100 million Target Customers in the U.S. and Canada.

For example, because we are now 15th in the world in regard to INternet speed we are faster than the Philippines. This might be something for people in the U.S. to think about.

The Head of Softbank was saying on the Charlie Rose Show on PBS that the Internet is now the most important Infrastructure business wise in the world. It is in it's own way for business success worldwdie more important than bridges or highways are for a nation's business success ongoing. So, unless the U.S. ups it's Internet Speeds it will tend to drop further and further behind other countries  business wise (at least in International Business dealings).

Imagine the U.S. Freeway system with 1 foot and two foot deep potholes where people have to be traveling 70 or more miles an hour. Imagine that there are 20 to 50 per mile in every single lane on freeways nationwide. This is sort of where the U.S. is business wise (at least in regard to the Internet).

This is something the average person in the U.S. needs to be aware of so our Internet infrastucture can be brought up to date with the rest of the developed world.
Click on the word button below to see your country speeds and if in the U.S. check local cities to you as well. Also, cities with colleges with Computer science majors, masters programs, and doctorates might tend to have higher Mbps as well.

Note: I was also just thinking that maybe a slower Internet is something the U.S. is doing purposefully on a military security level because of constant 24 hour a day Internet attacks on U.S. Military, Government and Business Internet sites coming from China, Russia and the Ukraine especially, as well as criminals and people working for foreign government worldwide. When an infrastructure is being constantly attacked sometimes one can better mitagate damage when it comes in more slowly. So, it also might be strategic to protecting web sites and all infrastructure that our Internet (nationwide) is moving slower than 15 other countries now on earth. Also, these 15 countries all tend to be smaller than ours so the expense of upgrading for them likely would be less than for us.
end note.

If you check the following site it will give you the average Internet speed in your country as you move over the map with your mouse cursor:

Top Twenty Country Ranking requires at least 100,000 unique IP addresses for a given country. Graph Period: Sep 9, 2011 - Mar 10, 2014. 72.84 Mbps.

Though you will see the U.S. averages 21.9 Mbps
states have their own averages:
Starting in the west with:
California:22.1 Mbps
Oregon:22.0 Mbps
Washington:27.8 Mbps
For example:
Here are some of the cities in Washington and their individual average internet speeds:
