    Mt. Shasta Ski Park, Calif.
Of the 37 entrants in Saturday’s 8th annual Over the Hill Classic at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park, many were first-timers, including artist/studio owner Mei Drucker.
She had “a great first run and was exhilarated after her second run,” according to information supplied in an email from Elizabeth Keane of the Mt. Shasta Ski and Snowboard Team.
The giant slalom course set by Brian Santos and Mario Marchi of the Mt. Shasta Race Association was “somewhat forgiving,” according to Keane, who described the racers, all age 50 and over, as “brave and fun-loving seniors.”
The most experienced was 83 year old Ray Redpath of Ashland Ore., who comes to the Ski Park every year for the race and placed first in the 80-plus age division.
Kristy Bond and Greg Hendrix were the female and male winners in the youngest division, Under 54. The list of winners is below.
The event raises funds to benefit beautification efforts in the city of Mt. Shasta.
Keane said more than $1,800 was raised “thanks to the generosity of the Ski Park,” which donated a 2017 season pass.
The Over the Hill Committee thanks the following: Raven Tree, The Fifth Season, Tongar Toolworks, Alyssa and Mark Jantzer, Photos by Mejack, Cresswell Physical Therapy, Vinnie Poch from Sublime Tunes, Kristi Bond and Dave Fischer.
