Only 502 drilling rigs still active in U.S.

This doesn't mean there aren't more rigs than this it just means this is how many are still being used right now. But, in previous articles this is what I was talking about. If you own an oil rig and don't use it are you soon bankrupt because they are expensive. Maybe. So, this is the real problem long term where there are few or no rigs or rig operators still in business as the price of oil stays this low worldwide. This isn't just happening in the U.S. by the way, this is happening worldwide.

Oil and Gas Drillers in the U.S. Ready to Party Like It's 1859

Oil and gas companies have cut so much spending amid the biggest price crash in a generation that there are only 502 drilling rigs still active in the country, according to Baker Hughes Inc. In the next few weeks, that could fall below 488, the lowest level in records dating back to 1948, according to Paul Hornsell, head of commodities research for Standard Chartered Bank. Melanie Kania, a Baker Hughes spokeswoman, said she was unable to find information pertaining to rig counts prior to 1949. Industrialist Andrew Carnegie visited the area in the early 1860s and was inspired by the frantic activity he found there.
