1 in 5 Women will be raped on College Campuses during College

I think this has always been true. Even when the world was much different than now many or most girls that had to get married (shotgun weddings) before abortion was legal before the early 1970s were victims of Date Rape or as we used to call it then, "Stop, don't stop!"

Now, women can choose what they do with their lives and whether or not they marry and whether or not they will have children and where they will live on earth, where they go to school and even what part of the world they will choose to live in alone, married, living with someone or having children with or without a husband. So, a lot has changed since the date rape forced marriages before the early 1970s changed the world we live in a lot today.

So, though this statistic is still horrific likely it has always been this way and likely will never change. Either the way it was: Date Rape
Today: just rape

And often this is something totally unwanted or unneeded by the person this was perpetrated upon.

Also, because often people under 30 years of age can't get good jobs, only 26% of people under 30 even get married now compared to about almost 50% when I was a teenager and young adult. So, this makes the change even more extreme because people now can't even afford to get married.

Another factor is AIDS. When I was growing up often girls at age 15 would run away from their parents and live with a man in his 20s, 30s or even 40s because their parents wanted to get rid of them and not have to support them anymore. So, this was pretty normal in the 1960s.

However, now, because of AIDS and no jobs available and many other factors this doesn't happen like it used to very much because of the changes in our society.

So, as society and culture changes drastically over time the words "Rape" or "Date Rape" or shotgun weddings or whatever are going to change meanings over time through different permutations of our society. With kids staying at home even with college degrees into their late 30s or early 40s just because they can't get a job with enough money to get married and to support a family meanings for all these things will continue changing.

However, I sort of see what is happening as being more harmful than good to society and the world.

If you want to read more on this topic the latest Time Magazine with "Rape" on the cover has an article  Starting on page 20.
