Population of Syria and population of Ukraine

I was interested in the population of both Syria and Ukrain because of what is happening both places now. 9 million Syrians have presently been displaced with at least 150,000 people or more dead so far.
In Ukraine it is a larger population of 45 million people so I expect if this keeps up for about 3 or 4 years like Syria there will likely be twice as many  refugees as Syria so that would mean about 18 to 20 million Ukrainians who are refugees from their homes in Ukraine. It wouldn't mean they left the Ukraine but only that they were forced to leave their homes to stay alive. I don't think Russia wants to save Ukraine at this point. I think Putin only wants to destroy it so the EU can't control it. that's all.

These were both Google searches. What came up in addition was Iraq and Libya on the Syria search and Germany and Poland on the Ukraine search and rather than delete them I left them here because you might want to know this information too.
