This movie reminds me a lot of how my life was around 1958 to 1960 when I was 10 to 12 years old. Especially summers when I went to Mt. Shasta from Glendale, California where I was growing up mostly. Even in Glendale we had a tree house with an elevator on pulleys in an old Eucalyptus tree about 3 stories off the ground. So, even that reminds me of the movie. Things were a lot different then than now. But, we as boys always had our bicycles and we went often as far as the Griffith park observatory and caught freshwater crayfish in the streams and brooks that ran down from Griffith park. We went into the Griffith park Observatory and I think we even swam one time in one of the water tanks in that area too. However, because we were in a city we didn't take our rifles or a pistol for protection. However, we took our rifles .22s into the deserts and mountains around Los Angeles where it was legal to shoot away from where people lived. Sometimes in the summers we would jump on freight trains to ride them a few blocks or miles in Mt. Shasta along the Sacramento River just to say we did it and climb on top of railroad trestles and climb to the top and stand up when a train drove under us on the railroad trestle bridge. We were boys the way they were in the 1950s making a lot of noise and taking a lot of physical risks. Luckily, I survived those days. I kind of miss they way things were then. Life was so much simpler than now. I was always the writer but I was also very big but also very polite. My father told me at age 12 that I must not let any boy make me angy or get my goat because I was going to kill them because I was so big and strong. And so I listened to him and never did. He said, "If you let someone make you reallly angry and you fight them you are going to kill them and no one will be able to stop you. So, you can't let anyone get you into a rage."
So, I listened to my Dad because he was right. I have always had to be the adult in the room since I was 12. This also included often being a referee and protecting others from harm. I miss my Dad. He passed away in 1985.
