However, my wife and I also already have my truck, her Lexus, my son's car he left here for me to keep up (and to drive whenever he visits so he doesn't have to rent a car here) (He also bought a new one where he lives now. And we also have my motorhome, my KLR 650 and that's a lot of vehicles especially because we bought our 18 year old daughter a new 2013 car as well. So, sometimes our home driveway looks more like a parking lot because we use our two car garage mostly for storing bicycles, my motorcycle, roof racks, bike racks, my inflatable kayak, skis, snow shoes and everything else someone married to the same person in a home they own does for 20 years or so.
So, even though I really would love to have an Elio I'm not sure I can get it by my wife. However, we might buy a convertible hardtop or a Mustang convertible like a lot a parents who are dealing with empty nest syndrome from their last kid going off to college.
I was talking to my wife about the Elio today and one of the problems I could see is cars "hooking" one of the front wheels under the front or back of their cars and breaking one of the front wheels off. Also, I could see being rear ended might even be worse than being rear ended on a motorcycle because it is only one person wide and likely wouldn't have enough strength to survive a fast rear end impact. So, for me, I'm thinking I won't be able to get one of these past my wife. (But maybe I can a convertible Hardtop or a Mustang Convertible because she used to own a 1968 and I used to own a 1968 Camaro and we both used to really love our cars then when I first bought mine new at age 20 when I first started off as a computer programmer and computer operator back in 1966 when I was 18 to 20 years of age and in college.
Also, I went to Blue Book online to price new convertible hardtops if you are interested:
Lexus IS C $50,00 to $51, 615
Mercedes Benz SLK Class $57,927 to $60,800
There is also a Volvo convertible hardtop at about $30,00 to $37,000 but it was discontinued after 2013.
Then there are regular convertibles but remember all someone needs is a knife to get into them like a Mustang or a Camaro. I think I would prefer to drive a Mustang these days simply because it takes me back to my youth and my wife as well. However, I really wish mustang would make a convertible hardtop so it was safer in all situations.
Also, there is also a Mercedes SL with a convertible hardtop but that is about $125,000 to buy.
