This is likely not a movie you want to go to for entertainment. However, you might go to learn some things about the Internet and servers and quantum computers and things like this.
The biggest problem likely that most people will have is trying to separate fact from fiction in this movie.
In other words, "What could actually happen that is similar to this?"
On one level the answer to this question is an unknown which is why this is a very important movie in it's own way like "Her".
I would say the most important thing this movie does is to make more people aware of just how potentially dangerous computers might be both now and into the future.
So, here is what I think is important to learn from this movie:
1. loading human minds into the Internet "especially the Cloud" likely has been already done (secretly so no one knows it is an actual mind being uploaded or it will likely be done within the next 5 to 10 years more than once around the world.
However, People don't have to be dead to have a clone of their minds in the Cloud and making infinite copies of themselves (their minds) all around the world. They can just as easily be alive when this is done and live for another 50 or even 80 years while they have access to their internet Cloud minds through various back doors online.
So, whether it has been done or not I fully expect it to be done within about 5 years time onto quantum computers which would have enough memory to actually do that.
However, what good would that do if it didn't have switches installed that could turn different devices on and off at will around the world? So, just having a mind out there on the Internet alone wouldn't do much but maybe gather interesting information on everyone on earth sort of like the CIA, NSA, FSB etc. as well as many many companies and other government agencies already do. A human clone of a mind might do this much more secretly and leave less traces than any government or company might though because it wouldn't be accessed directly from any terminal and might just give paper printed outputs at a specific printer or printers anywhere on earth regarding it's research.
But altering the molecular structure of people like that I think is more science fiction (at least for this century except for existing and developing nanobots that could ride in the bloodstream of humans. In fact there have been government nanobots invented in the 1970s that could do all sorts of things even then. So, who knows if it is in cereal and milk and water everywhere people eat already all over the earth. There likely wouldn't be domestic devices that would be allowed to exist by governments where this could even be legally checked anyhow.
And in some ways we don't need tagging or implants to track us our cell phones do that for the 5 billion humans that have one in their pocket all over the earth. So, all 5 billion of us who have cellphones (more cellphones than flush toilets now on earth) are being tracked in real time by satellites all the time now every time they make a phone call. Because any cell phone can only make a call while being gps located on earth by the phone company wherever it is on earth. IT's how the technology actually works. So, anytime you make a cell call someone knows where you are even if it is only the phone company.
So, what is real about this movie? What is real about this movie is that Transcendence is coming. However, what it actually will look like is still unknown. We will have to see it to know what it is. And once we know what it is it will be too late to stop it whether it is good or bad. And then, one day the sun will make a big solar storm and hit earth and all technology on that side of the earth will be fried. And what will happen then? I guess it depends what year this happens in. So, right now there are a lot of unknowns regarding the coming Singularity and Transcendence that is coming.
When is the Transcendence Coming. Ray Kurzweil says 2045. I think by 2020 we will kind of see what it might be becoming around then. I think by 2030 we will see it. I think by 2035 we will like it or not or both. However, all this depends upon what humans want to let happen when. In the end it is what humans actually do with technology that will decide what happens next.
