Yellow Mellow Brown Down in Western States

This is a way to save water that we began using during the last big droughts in the 1970s. The idea was you only flushed the toilet when you had a bowel movement. But, if you were only urinating you don't flush in order to save water. However, I was thinking about this is you are a lady and are using paper you need to be careful about paper buildup while you are doing this because you don't want to clog your toilet with paper either.

So, if you are in one of the western States facing a long term drought this is one of the ways to use less water during these times.

A more extreme measure is to put a 5 gallon bucket under the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink to catch any gray water to use to water plants or to flush toilets. In this case you completely turn off the water to your toilets and only flush with gray water from under sinks in the bathroom and in the kitchen. However, don't forget you only can save 5 gallons of water before it overflows.

You can then either water your plants outside with this water or flush your toilets with this water either by pouring it into the bowl or the tank from the 5 gallon bucket.
