Tips on Home schooling your kids

I have seen really good results from home schooling since 1980 when my 2nd wife and I put our 3 kids (two of hers and one of mine) from our first marriages on Independent Study with Oak Meadow School (WORD BUTTONS FOR SCHOOL AT BOTTOM OF PAGE)

What I wanted to say about home schooling is that kids often become more polite from being home schooled and become critical thinkers similar to college students and adults by age 8 or 10 years old as home schoolers.
(mine all have college degrees) the oldest 3 at this point or they are still studying in college now.
So, the oldest 3 spent 5 years studying with Oak Meadow School before they returned to public school again. My next younger daughter was home schooled most of her life as well though she decided on her own to return to High School before she went to a year of college and has gone back to college now.

So, of my 5 kids I raised (and two god daughters that we part time raised through college years the oldest 3 and the next oldest daughter were the ones home schooled. And this helped each of them be self Starters.

However, I have also seen people just pull their kids out of school and kids not being properly supervised or taught and kids just getting into pot and drugs during their 12 to 20 and possibly making a lot of really bad decisions. So, it helps if you or your spouse have a college education or at least some college if you are going to be supervising them. Also, home schoolers often set up play groups with other home schoolers for socialization and plan field trips together as well. Either meeting other people like this in person or online first is how people often start with all this.

Some people are very Christian who are home schoolers so if you are not as extreme as they might be you have to be sort of careful with all of this because you don't want their kids telling your kids they are going to hell just because they are in a different form of Christianity than you are. So, this might be important to know about all this too.

So, Bret and Silver are actually examples of people who through their inventions might help the human race like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Bill Gates and others. So, I'm sharing how someone like this could arise. Though it is true someone like these two could arise from poverty through student loans and colleges it would be much harder and take much longer in their lives than kids who are born with more resources in the first place.

It is one reason why I'm writing about Silver and Bret in

 and more recently:

However, I first wrote about Silver in:2035

if you are interested.

Both boys are home schoolers, each for different reasons.

However, I have also seen what upsupervised kids do too and that sometimes is not pretty because they will spend their time sometimes getting into trouble, smoking pot and doing drugs. So, home schooling only works if your kids are supervised enough in what they are doing long enough for them to REALLY get interested in living their lives and engineering their lives to be something wonderful.

Otherwise, home schooling can literally be the end of a kids life and they might not even survive until 20.

Home schooling is not a one size fits all kind of thing. Kids have to be motivated and self starters for this to work for them. If not, possibly being in a private school would be second best if they like it there. The worst is public school which sort of equally damages everyone nationally and internationally.

So, don't expect your kids to graduate from high school and not be physically and psychologically damaged from the public school  experience because it just doesn't happen.

I speak from experience on this one (and I was big enough to physically defend myself always.).

But, defending yourself from knives, guns and gangs often you just have to move away to somewhere else to survive these.

And if you cannot afford a good private school and want to get your kids away from guns, knives and gangs, Oak Meadow School might be one alternative that you might be able to afford if you have one parent or relative home to educate your kids and to supervise them. (or both parents if possible). IF you run your business from home for example, you can show your kids how your business works and this might be helpful to them too. We trained our older children in some of our businesses after age 10 in our family too. So, this is good experience for them when they are on their own in the real world.
