A New Policy for the Middle East
Obama's speech today was the single most significant change in U.S. policy towards the middle east in my lifetime. Though it could not be all things to all people, still it is a significant acknowledgement of the Realpolitic of the New Middle East. He could not address Saudi Arabia without causing the world significant oil price problems but as all things change in the middle east Saudi Arabia cannot help but be influenced and somewhat changed by it as well. However, people in Saudi Arabia will understand that Obama isn't making these changes in the middle east, he is only reacting to them in a very practical way. Both the U.S. and Saudi Arabia and the whole middle East will have to deal with whatever happens there in whatever way they can.
