This movie is just so much like how things were in 1958 to 1960 summers that every time I watch this movie it takes me back to those times once again. Things were simpler then and different and crazy then in a whole different way than now. When things just seem to impossible to fathom because of how the world just keeps on changing and changing non-stop  I watch this movie or a part of it and life starts to make more sense again immediately.

This movie is about boys about 12 years old discovering the body of someone their own age who has been hit by a train. To me, this movie is very poignant because these boys would likely grow up (except for Gordie who likely went to college to become a writer) and would have been drafted into the army and sent to Viet Nam. So, this story is very powerful for people my age who grew up then.

So, discovering life and death was something important to learn about for boys then so they could deal with whatever came in their lives better.
