Latest Software downloads for Galaxy 4 and Iphone 5 are trashing phones

My son was first to tell me the latest software update had trashed his Iphone 5. Then just now my wife told me her best friend's Galaxy 4 got trashed by the latest software download for her device as well. I'm thinking that there is either something wrong with the software itself or there is some kind of malware riding on the back of this software download somehow. Either way, I think not downloading the latest software downloads or patches might be useful if you want your Iphone5 or Galaxy 4 to actually work when you need them to.

Later: both the people who had this bad experience with their Iphone5 and Galaxy 4 eventually found a way to recover their devices. Hopefully, the malware problems have been solved by now. I would visit your software sources or ask this question online to see what others are experiencing now.
