From 50 to 7500 Drones

Begin quote from: Time magazine page 28 from the February 11th 2013 magazine:

---Ten years ago the Pentagon had about 50 drones in its fleet; currently it has some 7,500. More than 1/3 of the aircraft in the Air Force's fleet are now unmanned. The U.S. military reported carrying out 447 drone attacks in Afghanistan in the first 11 months of 2012, up from 294 in all of 2011. Since President Obama took office, the U.S. has executed more than 300 covert drone attacks in Pakistan, a country with which we're not at war. Already this year there are credible reports of 5 covert attacks in Pakistan and as many as eight in Yemen, including one on Jan. 21, the day Obama's second Inauguration. The Pentagon is planning to establish a drone base in northwestern Africa.

In the first place I'm not saying we shouldn't be doing this because doing this likely saved hundreds or thousands of lives of U.S. soldiers, citizens and diplomats by doing this. However, it is also important to realize that when we distance ourselves when executing people it is almost like it didn't happen at all and that it all is some sort of video game remote pilots are playing.

Warfare in the old days was very personal with knives, swords, battle axes. So, even when bows and arrows came into the picture it was the beginning of snipers. And each layer that prevents a person from watching whoever they kill die horribly makes it seem more unreal and more easy to do. Killing someone SHOULD always be as difficult as possible. This is the only way to prevent murders and killings all around the world. Killing someone should drive people insane the way it used to. That way murders and mayhem are seldom committed except by crazy people. So, the problem I have with drones used by ANY country is it is just too easy to push a button and a bunch of people die on the other side of the earth. Or worse, the Predator simply follows it's targeting through Artificial Intelligence and no human is directly involved in the killing at all.
